Opalfall
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 7, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how The Crux Studios (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you play Opalfall (the “Game”) or visit opalfall.com (the “Site”). Opalfall has no accounts and no login — apart from an email address you choose to give us (for support or our newsletter), everything we collect is anonymous and tied to your device, not to your identity. By using the Game or Site you agree to this Policy.
1. Information we collect
- Information you provide. If you email our support address, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. If you sign up for our newsletter on the Site, we collect your email address (see “The Site” below).
- Gameplay & device data. Game progress and settings (stored on your device), and technical data such as device model, operating system, language, app version, crash logs, an anonymous app-instance identifier, and a resettable advertising identifier.
- Push token. If you enable notifications, we collect a push notification token so we can deliver them.
- Purchase records. When you make an in-app purchase, the relevant app store processes payment; we receive a confirmation, the product purchased, and a transaction identifier — but not your full payment-card details.
- Usage analytics. Anonymous, aggregated metrics about how the Game is used (for example which worlds players reach and how features perform).
2. How we use information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Game;
- To save and restore your progress and purchases;
- To provide customer support and respond to your requests;
- To send push notifications, if you have enabled them;
- To serve and measure advertising (see below);
- To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, or technical issues.
3. Advertising & third-party services
The Game uses the following third-party services, which may receive data as described above:
- Google AdMob — serves and measures ads. AdMob may collect a device/advertising identifier, approximate (IP-based) location, and ad-interaction signals to provide and measure ads, including personalized advertising where permitted.
- Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, and Cloud Messaging) — provides in-game analytics, crash reporting, and push notifications.
- Apple App Store and Google Play — distribute the Game and process in-app purchases as the merchant of record.
On Apple devices we request permission via App Tracking Transparency before any cross-app tracking, and in applicable regions we show a consent prompt for personalized ads. If you decline, you will still see ads, but non-personalized ones. You can also reset or limit your advertising identifier in your device settings.
4. Analytics & crash reporting
We use Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics to understand engagement in aggregate and to diagnose crashes. This data is keyed to an anonymous app-instance identifier, not to your identity. You can turn this off at any time using the Analytics toggle in the Game's Settings, which stops both analytics and crash-reporting collection.
5. Push notifications
If you enable notifications, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver them. You can turn notifications off at any time in the Game's Settings or in your device settings.
6. The Site
opalfall.com is a static informational site. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first, cookieless analytics tool, to measure aggregate traffic — such as page views, referrers, and visitor country. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint or track you across sites, and collects no personal information. Our host may also log standard technical request data (such as IP address) for security and delivery, subject to its own privacy practices.
If you sign up for launch updates on the Site, we collect your email address to send you launch news and occasional updates about Opalfall. We use Buttondown, a newsletter service, to store the list and send those emails. Subscribing requires a confirmation click (double opt-in), your address is used for nothing else and is never sold, and every email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing — or emailing us — removes your address from the list.
7. Children's privacy
Opalfall is intended for a general audience aged 13 and over, and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Sharing & disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers named above, who process it on our behalf (advertising, analytics, crash reporting, push delivery, and app-store distribution), or where required by law, or to protect our rights and users' safety.
9. Data retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide and improve the Game and for legitimate business or legal purposes, then delete or anonymize it. Progress and settings stored on your device are removed when you delete the Game.
10. Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live (e.g. EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can also opt out of analytics in Settings, decline personalized ads at the consent prompt, and reset your advertising identifier in your device settings. To exercise your rights, email hello@opalfall.com.
11. Security
All data the Game transmits is encrypted in transit. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, where our service providers (Google and Apple) operate, and which may have different data protection laws. We rely on these providers' safeguards for such transfers.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date.
